Overview
We will be heading to Zambia, and other countries in the surrounding region, in September 2015 for three months. The main foci of this trip are training and needs assessment. This trip is the beginning of a new chapter in how we are serving God, and we have a lot of work to do–both before and during the trip.
This year, The World for the Word is hosting its largest training event ever in Lusaka, Zambia. Over 70 students are coming together from all over the country (and even the world) to attend courses on Bible Translation, Theology, Greek & Hebrew, Linguistics, and Cultural Anthropology during a month-and-a-half of intensive, hands-on work. We will be attending this training as part of our process for becoming full-time Bible translation consultants and trainers. In addition to this training, we will be traveling to a translation project in rural Zambia to get hands-on experience working with a translation team. The translation teams in Zambia are in desperate need of continued support in translating the Bible into the Ila and Soli languages, and we will be establishing relationships and starting to engage these projects during this initial trip!
We will also be traveling with AFMIN to work in the initial stages of their Empowering Women Leaders projects in Zambia, Rwanda, and Burundi. Lydia will be gathering information from the on-going training projects in these countries to begin developing a curriculum for teaching trauma response and care to hurting communities in Africa. The African Union has recently prioritized women’s equality as a key part of their plan for Africa (read more). We are so thankful to God for this chance to work with a leading organization of Christian leadership development in Africa and to become a part of foundational works for women’s equality, empowerment, and liberation!
Additionally, we will be C&MA representatives at a conference for the Childhood Safety & Protection Network (CSPN). This international meeting is designed to train, equip, and bring together agencies, organizations, and workers who have committed to Child Safety and Abuse Response in missions.
